Frequently Asked Questions – Dental Services

If you’re experiencing severe tooth pain and don’t have dental insurance, Jordan Valley Community Health Center can still help. We believe everyone deserves access to dental care, regardless of coverage. Here are some steps you can take:

  • Contact Us Immediately: Call our office to explain your symptoms. We offer emergency dental services, and our team will help you get the care you need as soon as possible.
  • Sliding Fee Discount Program: Jordan Valley offers a sliding fee scale based on your income and household size, which significantly reduces the cost of treatment for uninsured patients.
  • Presumptive Medicaid Help: If you’re eligible, our Care Coordinators and Patient Advocates can help you apply for presumptive Medicaid, a program that offers temporary, immediate coverage to help pay for services while you wait for full Medicaid approval.
  • Avoid Home Remedies for Too Long: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen may help temporarily, but dental issues like infections or abscesses can worsen quickly if not treated. It’s best to see a dentist as soon as possible.
  • Stay Hydrated and Avoid Irritants: Until your appointment, drink plenty of water, avoid extremely hot or cold foods, and try not to chew on the painful side of your mouth.

You don’t have to suffer through dental pain. Affordable emergency care is available — we’re here to help you find relief.

No, most emergency rooms cannot pull a tooth. While hospital ERs can help manage severe dental pain, swelling, or infection with pain relievers or antibiotics, they typically do not have dentists on staff and are not equipped to perform extractions or other dental procedures.

If you have a dental emergency, such as:

  • A severe toothache

  • Swelling in the face or jaw

  • A broken or abscessed tooth

…it’s best to contact a dental clinic like Jordan Valley Community Health Center. We offer emergency dental services and can often see patients quickly, even if you don’t have insurance.

Tip: Going to the ER for dental issues is usually more expensive and only a temporary fix. For long-term relief and proper treatment, you’ll need to see a dentist.
