SPRINGFIELD, MO — Jordan Valley Health hosted a community lunch and learn at Jordan Valley Senior Care to raise awareness about the expansion of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA), a federal program that provides compensation to eligible individuals affected by radiation exposure.
The educational session focused on what RECA is, who may qualify for compensation in Missouri, and how the program’s expansion could affect individuals and families in the region. The discussion also helped bring attention to resources available to people seeking more information about potential eligibility.
On July 4, 2025, federal legislation expanded RECA to include additional areas and groups, including certain individuals in Missouri who may have been affected by radiation exposure. Those who lived, worked or attended school near Coldwater Creek or the Weldon Spring site in the St. Louis metropolitan area may qualify for compensation if they meet the program’s eligibility requirements.
“Raising awareness about programs like RECA is an important step in helping people understand the resources that may be available to them so they can make informed decisions about their next steps,” said Ryan Kruger, Chief Strategy Officer, Jordan Valley Health.
RECA eligibility depends on specific criteria, including an individual’s exposure history, location and other program requirements. Community members are encouraged to seek information from official program resources to determine whether they may qualify, and what documentation may be needed.
By hosting educational opportunities like this session, Jordan Valley Health continues its commitment to improving the community’s health through access and relationships.
FOR MORE INFORMATION: Additional information for RECA may be found on websites for Missouri Senator Josh Hawley and the Department of Justice. To file an online claim visit: www.justice.gov/civil/reca.
